To the Woods

To Covert Wood, in fact, to enjoy the sunshine and the light through the winter trees. I reckon a wood is an organism in it's own right, rather than a number of individual trees. At this time of year it's easy to see the bones of a wood, but not much else. Our dog flushed a Woodcock in this coppice, it slipped away through the Sweet Chestnut as easy as you like

There has been work to clear the ride edges, and create this exciting potential butterfly habitat. I do hope the Glow worms (Lampyris noctiluca)  are OK, though, as this is my most reliable place to bring grandchildren to see them

This area looks tasty, too, Tree Pipit for sure, and a Woodlark or two would be a bonus

The light was just magic

There were 2 or possibly 3 pairs of Marsh Tits in this mature Beech and Oak, but no sign of Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, or Treecreepers today. Never mind, it was lovely just to be in there
